I have a strange question which I cannot get answered, no matter where I go. As a paralegal at a major oil and gas firm, I naturally have inherited various Corporate Seals (ongoing mergers/acquisition are the nature of the beast!). I don't know if they should be kept for posterity or destroyed. If they should be destroyed, I can’t find anyone who will take them. The seal itself is lead and shouldn’t be added to the landfill. The remainder of the stamp is metal. Seeing as metal is a non-renewable resource I would think that someone would want the metal – these stamps are very heavy.
Does anyone in the organization have any answers to either question?
1. Keep or destroy?
2. If destroy – how?
I’ve been told to take a hammer to them, I’ve been told to take a belt sander to them, neither of which works for me. Incidentally, why are these things still made of lead…there must be some other malleable metal which could be employed.
