I was wondering if anyone has tips or insight about the social aspect to boards during this online only time.

Board dinners were always a great way to build relationships, so how can that best be done now?

Here’s an idea we’re considering: a virtual mixology lesson. Ingredients for drinks/mocktails are shipped to participants beforehand. https://torontobarmen.com/hire-a-mixologist-toronto/

The October 6 session "Beyond the Technical - What Will Make a Governance Professional Great in the Future" offered the following:

    1. an on-line cooking class (Dottie Schindlinger)
    2. desert cleaning (Paul Dubal, while in the Middle East)

I have also heard of tea ceremonies and (for organizations who permit) scotch and whiskey tastings.

To share a recent experience... we just used outbackteambuilding.com for a virtual murder mystery that the board really enjoyed.

I liked that it was more engaging than just eating or drinking virtually together.  It gave them a good mental workout and brought out a little competitive spirit while still letting them work together and get to know eachother.  Engaging host took care of all the event administration.

They also have options like trivia and gameshows which might be good as "lighter" options, but I know we have smart and serious bunch so I went with the more challenging murder mystery.

We compared a number of virtual teambuilding providers.  Message me and I can share our chart.

I have been opening up the conference bridge .30 minutes before the meetings to allow for socialization time.

In the invite I make it clear that this is for non-board related conversation but an opportunity to connect with each other. I also invite the Executive Leadership Team.
